The southern region of Brazil, particularly the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has experienced heavy rainfall over the past week, leading to floods and natural disasters such as landslides. According to reports, the disasters have resulted in 84 deaths, with 111 people reported missing, and over 115,000 people forced to leave their homes. Many local club players have joined relief efforts.
The home stadium of Grêmio has been submerged by floods. Players from Internacional, including Alarico, Mercado, Enna Valencia, and Rochet, participated in distributing food to the homeless and made donations. Grêmio goalkeeper Caio Kayky also participated in rescue efforts, using a motorboat to help evacuate stranded people. Additionally, Diego Costa brought four motorboats to assist in rescuing those who had not been evacuated in time.
Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho also sought help on his personal social media: "Friends, you know that my hometown is facing a huge disaster, and I am closely following this terrible moment. I am from the southern region of Porto Alegre, and the losses here are very serious, but thank God my family and I are safe and praying for everyone. The current focus is on helping to rescue those families who are trapped. I call on Brazil and the whole world to join us."
